Product Safety

Neuburg Siliceous Earth, extracted in the surrounding of Neuburg (Danube) is a natural combination corpuscular, crypto-crystalline and amorphous silica and lamellar kaolinite: a loose mixture impossible to separate by physical methods. As a result of natural formation, the silica portion exhibits a round grain shape and consists of aggregated, crypto-crystalline primary particles of about 200 nm diameter, which are coveredby amorphous silica opal like.

Neuburg Siliceous Earth, or more specifically its trade name products Sillitin and Aktisil presently do not have a CAS identification number of their own. However, their main components silica and kaolinite are listed in all international product registers. Many further application related regulations and directives are met by Sillitin and Aktisil, as summarized in pertaining synoptic charts (chart (pdf) ). It also looks appropriate to point to the REACh status (REACh status (pdf) ) of the Neuburg Siliceous Earth products.

In this context, it is appropriate to underline the extremely low heavy metal content of Neuburg Siliceous Earth, which makes the material particularly suitable as a filler in products such as duroplast resins, reactive resins, rubber, cellophane, paper, cardboard, plastics dispersions, paints and coatings etc., if and when they are directed towards food contact areas.

In addition, other sensible application areas deserve mentioning such as food additives, self-medication products and cosmetics.
